Message from the President
Lydia Villarreal, Chairman of the CCA Board of Directors, has announced that current Executive Director, Daniel Gonzalez, after more than two years as Executive Director, is transitioning to a new position in March. Villarreal also announced that a longtime supporter and team member of CCA, Kris Edmunds, has agreed to be CCA’s Interim Executive Director.
Edmunds was CCA’s Director of Education and Fund Development in the early days and did a phenomenal job of fundraising and elevating CCA’s profile in the community. She has been on the board two different times, from 2000–2006 and from 2019-2020. She will temporarily step down as a board member while she is serving as CCA’s Interim Executive Director.
Edmunds has extensive experience in fundraising and administration, and deep knowledge of the local community. “We could not have asked for a more experienced, more perfect Interim Executive Director. I’d like you to join me in welcoming Kris as our Interim Executive Director,” said Villarreal.

As a longtime supporter and team member of CCA and board member two different times, from 2000–2006 and from 2019-2020, I am honored and excited to assume my new position of Interim Executive Director of CCA. During my 30-year relationship with CCA, I have been a volunteer, staff member, fundraiser, board member, donor, and a great admirer of CCA’s work. I am thrilled to help guide an organization that I love through an important transition period. I am grateful that the board has the confidence in me to take on this challenge. The work we do here is even more important and critical now, more than a year into the pandemic that has severely impacted all of our lives. Thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve our community.

The Center for Community Advocacy (CCA) provides education, orientation and legal support to farm workers and other low-income working families who want to establish neighborhood committees that work to improve housing and health conditions. CCA trains these committees to negotiate with landlords to resolve issues such as unsafe housing conditions, housing discrimination and security deposits. CCA also trains these committees to provide preventative health information and interventions in their neighborhoods.
CCA is committed to providing opportunities, venues and programs that allow motivated residents to develop their leadership skills and potential. Whether through volunteering at CCA and community events, serving in a leadership capacity in a local community group or board or by participating in a workshop series, CCA works to provide residents with opportunities to participate, network and avail themselves of ideas and best practices for civic engagement and community involvement.
Please join us this Mother’s Day in honoring the women who head CCA’s neighborhood housing and health committees by supporting CCA’s Mother’s Day Promotoras Campaign.

The Center for Community Advocacy (CCA) is an organization that was born to support and build leadership within our community and in particular our farmworkers and their families
As such, we have worked side by side with them to help improve their living conditions, advocating to have more affordable housing and access to health services and resources. The need for these efforts to continue is great but has become even greater during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dia de los Muertos has been celebrated in Mexico since 1800 B.C. It is a time when family and friends gather together to honor those loved one’s who have passed away. It is also a time to celebrate the connection between one’s ancestors and the good work they did while on earth and the good each person is striving to do in their own lives.
Help CCA raise funds for the work that we do. Also support the important role that CCA-trained neighborhood leaders play in helping our community move forward.
