Monterey County Gives!

by | Oct 29, 2021 | Blog

The Center for Community Advocacy’s Big Idea Project has been accepted by the Monterey County Weekly’s Monterey County Gives! Program to raise funds for local nonprofits.

The Center for Community Advocacy (CCA) is an organization that was born to support and build leadership within our community and in particular our farmworkers and their families. As such, we have worked side by side with them to help improve their living conditions, advocating to have more affordable housing and access to health services and resources. The need for these efforts to continue is great but has become even greater during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, many of us can shelter in place; however, this is not the case with our vast farm-working community. Farmworkers are not hunkered down at home, they are working long hours in the fields, orchards and packing plants. They have put their safety and health on the line to help feed our community. The need for resourcing and information sharing is high within a population that has been affected disproportionately by the pandemic in Monterey County. CCA works to provide health information about prevention and detection of symptoms. Further, through partnerships and donations we are delivering re-usable and disposable masks to farmworkers in their place of employment for their protection. Today our farmworkers face many challenges to be able to provide a decent living for their families, but COVID-19 has increased the stakes. CCA works tirelessly to help our community overcome these challenges.

For this reason, our “Big Idea” for this year’s Monterey County Gives! campaign is to seek donor support for CCA programs that help our farmworkers during these difficult times. As a community-based organization, we work to breach needs and bring resources to underserved and vulnerable residents of our county. Your support helps us continue this much needed work more importantly now throughout this health emergency.

Please support CCA and thank all our brave and determined ESSENTIAL FARMWORKER community for putting their health and life on the line to help feed us all.

SUPPORT CCA

CCA is able to “help farmworkers help themselves” because of the generous support of our local community, foundations and private donors. If you would like to support the work of the CCA, please contact our office or make a tax-deductible donation.
