CCA’s MCGives! Big idea 2023 CCA’s Youth4change program helps build leaders of tomorrow

Youth Program is Big Idea for 2023 MCGives! Fundraising Campaign

It’s a time-honored cliché, but the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. That’s one reason the Center for Community Advocacy (CCA) is cultivating and advancing leadership from farmworker and low-income families by developing youth leadership through educational success to expand their opportunities in life.

CCA’s youth program, Youth4Change, focuses on bridging the educational gap by providing activities on college and career preparedness, academic success, leadership building, and civic participation. CCA builds and develops the skills of these youth by preparing them to attain, achieve and succeed in high school, college/university, professionally and socially.

The Youth4Change program is centered on educational and professional skills, so youth are equipped to rise to any challenge and take initiative. Youth4Change was designed to fortify youth educationally to open doors and expand opportunities in their lives, thus transforming themselves, their families, and their communities. The goal of CCA’s Youth4Change program is to develop dynamic and influential youth leaders.

With that in mind, CCA’s Big Idea for Monterey County Weekly’s 2023 MCGives! fundraising campaign is to develop youth leadership with programs like Youth4Change. CCA is hoping its supporters will donate to the campaign when MCGives! becomes active on its website on Nov. 9, 2023 and runs through Dec. 31. Starting Nov. 9, go to montereycountygives.com/cca to make your donation, which will be matched in part when the campaign ends.

In 2021, Monterey County Gives! raised more than $7.8 million in six weeks, thanks to more than 7,500 donors. Since its inception, the program has raised and donated over $34 million to approximately 500 local nonprofits.

The campaign is a partnership between Monterey County Weekly, the Community Foundation for Monterey County and the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, coupled with the generosity of its 2021 major partners — the Neumeier Poma Investment Counsel, Cannery Row Company, the David and Lucille Packard Foundation, the Colburn and Alana Jones Foundation at CFMC and the Gunde & Ernie Posey Family Foundation. Thanks to its partners, MCGives! kicked off the 2021 campaign with an overall Matching Fund of $750,000.

Many participating nonprofits stepped up and raised Challenge Gifts from key supporters, to spur more giving and new donors from the community. Those gifts total nearly $1.425 million in last year’s campaign. Combined, Monterey County Gives! had over $2.1 million in Matching and Challenge Gifts.
